Ancien membre du Parti démocrate-chrétien populaire (PDC), Poggia quitte le parti pour rejoindre le MCG en 2009. Il est élu au Grand Conseil genevois lors des élections de 2009. Lors des élections de 2011, il a été élu seul membre du Conseil national du MCG, représentant Genève. Il s'est présenté au Sénat italien lors des élections de 2008 pour l'Union des démocrates-chrétiens et des démocrates du centre, dans le but de représenter les Italiens à l'étranger.
Formerly a member of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP), Poggia left to join the MCG in 2009. He was elected to the Grand Council of Geneva at the 2009 election. He was elected as the MCG's sole member of the National Council at the 2011 election, representing Geneva. He ran for the Senate of Italy in the 2008 election for the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats, seeking to represent Italians abroad.
